Resumo

The search for alternatives and enhancement of what is traditional and consolidated boosts all the processes continuous improvement and this is also applied to machining. An operation that raised as a consequence of this methodology is the micromilling bringing their own characteristics and challenges to be understood. Therefore, this work intent tocontribute in the evaluation of the cutting forces when this process is applied to an opening pocket strategy, namely the helical interpolation. For this purpose, circular cavities of 1.400 µm of diameter were machined with a micro-end mill of 800 µm in an AISI P20 tool steel with different feed per tooth. The data were acquired through a dynamometer and graphs were generate joined to a statistical test to evaluate the conditions. At the end, it was noted that axial cutting force increase and atypical resultant cutting force behavior suggesting influence of the lack of tool stiffness.
