Resumo

The aim of this work is to verify the RMB technique parameters sensitivity in relation to the microstructural variations of thermite welds in rails. It is tried to identify a correlation of the RMS and Peak-Position of the Envelope values with the variations of residual stress and hardness. The work was done on a rail sample, which was cut to reveal the macrograph of the welded joint. In the measurement procedure, the probe (Yoke and reader coil) is placed on the surface of the material, although no sensor / surface contact is required. The RMB signal is recorded and then processed into parameters, RMS and Peak-Position of the Envelope. Small steps of 2.5 mm are used between the measurement points of the same line for better resolution of the data. In total there are 15 lines for a surface map plotting. The results showed that the analyzed parameters of the RMB signal performed well in identifying the distributions of residual stress and hardness from the weld.
