Resumo

In the process of machining, it is difficult to obtain a piece with exact measurements due to the various factors that influence the result. The surface integrity of machined parts directly affects its dimensional stability and, consequently, its integrity/functionality. Given this, it is vital to control the surface condition of elements after the machining process. The surface state comprises assessing roughness, as well as dimensional and form tolerances. This paper will focus on assessments in the form error concerning flatness. It is known that the use of a good face milling method can provide good flatness for low levels of cutting tool wear, cutting time and error optimization. This work consists in analyzing the quality of the shape and the times associated with the SAE 4340 steel cutting process after the machining procedure. Parameters were set and cut strategies and cut widths were controlled to achieve tight levels of flatness error. The strategy in Discordant Zig with cutter width of 50% of milling cutter diameter is not recommended. The Zig Zag strategy presented the best results
