Resumo

The 300M steel is an ultra-high strength steel, like the SAE 4340 steel, developed by DCTA in conjunction with Brazilian
companies, being used mainly in the aeronautical industry with the construction of aircraft landing gear and envelopes of rocket
engines, due to its high mechanical resistance. The heat treatment is necessary and ideal to transform the microstructure of the material,
leading to the increase of hardness, a requirement for its use. In this work, a study on the process of plasma welding in the 300M steel
is carried out, comparing the performance of the joint and adjacent regions to the material submitted to welding and subsequent heat
treatment to another welding only. The behavior of the material from a heat treatment is also evaluated, since it is complex and consists
of the following steps: normalization, quenching, salt bath and double tempering. This comparison occurs from mechanical tests of
traction, fatigue and microhardness in both conditions and show the difference between the hardness before and after the treatment in
addition to metallographic analysis to aid in this study, aiming to prove or not the importance of performing a treatment in this
application.
